As Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich — arrested in Russia — was freed Thursday in a multi-country prisoner swap in Turkey, former US president Donald Trump’s recent statement on the issue started doing the rounds as Trump said Putin would free the US journalist only when Trump is elected. Gershkovich “will be released almost immediately after the Election, but definitely before I assume Office,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
